We may say "never again" so why do we still have war and genocide?

By Pat Hackett  Democracy and what is going wrong? In the UK and other countries in the West it has been stated that each of us have an equal say in the running of our countries because we can all vote and every vote is equally counted and yet we seem unable to play a meaningful path in preventing war and destruction or environmental damage across the world. An economic system where we have a mix of regulations and laissez-faire is regarded aa sensible balance however I believe that our so- called democracy is more of an Oligarchy in which the most ruthless wield the most influence. The Oligarchs corrupt our politicians and media. The media influence society and in a vicious cycle society then tends to select leaders who are the likeliest to be corrupted. This I believe results in a consumerist and celebrity led society where self interest is encouraged. How often do we see governmental economic budgets being evaluated by asking people "What's in it for you?" or "wh...

Rebuilding society.

By Pat Hackett. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/16qBc1GRwZ/ Palestine. As I write this post in June 2025 the following should be clear:-  The world needs to feed the entire population of men, women and children in Palestine now. We need to go much further and provide the urgent medical aid they need. We must help them rebuild their homes and then all the buildings and institutions needed for a successful society to flourish and then let the people have the democratic freedom to choose their own peaceful path in cooperation with the rest of the world. What about the Society in Israel? Many Jews will know that the Israeli government and actions are not representative of the core values of Judaism or humanitarianism. For the barbaric atrocities that we see inflicted on the people of Palestine then this requires many of the Israeli population to have had the willingness or capability to personally physically drop bombs, burn peoples homes, or prevent aid reaching people in need. Stopping the cycle of war and environmental destruction.

By Pat Hackett. Home page.  If the politicians can't or won't act:- A peaceful revolution for long term peace and wellbeing:- If we are to make "never again" really never again it's imperative our political and economic systems do not make this cycle and destruction inevitable. If there is a vicious circle of inequality leading to those with extreme wealth disproportionately influencing the politics and media to further their wealth and influence then this cycle and destruction becomes inevitable. The vicious circle leads to the most ruthless oligarchs having the most influence and they use that influence today to encourage the politics of consumption based on infinite growth, self interest and division. What has happened to society? First we must stop the genocide and wars happening now in all the ways we can as discussed to some extent in the previous post.   Why we need a grassroot revolution. As I write this Western politicians and the media are conceding tha...

Why we need a grassroot revolution.

By Pat Hackett  In 2025 the world is watching a whole nation fighting starvation and being deprived of basic needs for survival and doing little about it. This is the continued plight of the Palestinian people from apartheid to genocide. This is not a problem that the west including Britain is an uninvolved bystander as briefly described in the myths but a problem that our leaders are not dealing with. (If Britain can send in reconnaissance planes over Gaza why can't they send in food in defiance of the Israeli government. Britain must simultaneously stop sending military support to Israel. Britain could really step up by having a less negative role and supporting existing international laws.) Furthermore there is not an effective pathway for the population to timely change the course of this using the accepted routes because of institutionalised failings in our politicians and main stream media preventing democracy to work effectively.  Institutionalised failings:- For ...
